Etta's Seafood Kitchen
If you're wandering through the lively lanes of Brixton's Granville Arcade and suddenly catch the warm, spicy scent of Caribbean spices drifting through the air, chances are you're close to Etta's Seafood Kitchen-a true gem for seafood lovers and soul food seekers alike.
Tucked into Units 85-86 on Coldharbour Lane, this vibrant spot doesn’t try to be flashy. Instead, it lets the food do the talking-and trust me, it speaks volumes. From the moment you walk in, the cozy, no-frills vibe invites you to unwind. With wheelchair-accessible entrance and seating, the space is inclusive and welcoming to everyone, whether you're dropping by for a quick solo lunch or bringing a group in for a flavour-packed dinner.
Now, let's talk food-the heart and soul of Etta’s. If you’ve got a thing for bold, slow-cooked island flavors, this place doesn’t hold back. One dish that stands out immediately is the Seafood Curry. It's a silky, spicy, and deeply aromatic stew brimming with tender shrimp, fish chunks, and sometimes even crab, depending on the day. It's the kind of curry that feels like it’s been simmering in a pot for hours, kissed by fresh herbs and just the right level of heat.
Then there’s the Brown Stew Fish-a Caribbean classic done exceptionally well. The fish is flaky yet firm, bathed in a rich brown sauce layered with bell peppers, onions, and just a hint of Scotch bonnet for warmth. Pair that with a side of rice and peas, and you've got a plate that feels like home cooking at its finest.
Seafood fans will appreciate the rotating specials, which often include steamed sea bass, grilled lobster, or even crab curry-all prepared with care and bursting with flavor. Craving something lighter? The Scallop Salad offers a refreshing balance with its citrusy vinaigrette, and the Crispy Calamari delivers the perfect crunch.
But what really brings people back to Etta’s is how the menu weaves soul and spice into every dish. The Ackee and Saltfish, Jamaica’s national dish, is another must-try. Creamy ackee blends seamlessly with salted cod, sautéed onions, and herbs. It's often served with plantain chips that add just the right amount of sweetness to balance the salt.
And let's not overlook the small bites and drinks. The Fish Fritters are crispy, golden, and dangerously addictive. Pair them with a cold Rum Punch or an ice-cold Red Stripe beer, and you've officially unlocked the perfect starter combo. There’s also homemade ginger cake and fresh lemonade to cool off with-a sweet and spicy duo that wraps up the experience just right.
For those in a hurry, Etta’s offers delivery and takeaway options, while the outdoor seating provides a sunny spot to enjoy your meal right in the heart of the buzzing market. They’ve nailed the art of balancing comfort food with quick service, making it a hit among solo diners, busy lunch crowds, and relaxed dinner-goers alike.
What truly sets Etta’s Seafood Kitchen apart from the many eateries scattered across London is its deep-rooted Caribbean authenticity. The flavors here aren’t toned down or overly Westernized-they’re bold, unapologetic, and full of heart. It’s a place where you’re not just eating seafood-you’re experiencing the spirit of Caribbean cooking at its finest.

Gorgeous authentic Caribbean Seafood. Delicious! Highly recommended the rum cake and ice cream and Seafood Curry. Excellent service and food. Thank you Etta and co.
Encountered Etta's home from home cuisine today. It was absolutely delightful. The blend of seasonings is perfection, with no one spice overbearing. I ordered the red bream and it did not disappoint. The fish was beautifully flaked, and covered in a lovely sauce. The rum punch was punching and Etta does not skimp on the rum! Lovely atmosphere, very rustic, carribean feel. The vibe is chilled, but welcoming. Excited to try more dishes in the near future.
A MUST if you’re visiting Brixton. Such incredible flavours. Had the seafood platter and it was really well balanced, flavourful and plenty of food for two people. Etta was working solo the night we were there and still managed to bring the chat and deliver amazing service, between cooking for each table.
We’ve walked past this place many times and always empty and we are SO GLAD we sat down! Etta the owner chef is lovely and welcoming and the food you receive is all cooked fresh and she will pop to the local shops to grab the produce so you know everything is fresh! My girlfriend would also come back simply for the homemade Sorrell drink which is incredibly refreshing. Massively recommend!
